Point of View
With photography I try to reflect the intensity of a shared instant.
The intensity begins right there, where the notion of time disappears.
As the moment becomes more intense, time loses its importance.
All photographers interpret, take decisions regarding how to present a subject, form an opinion, “manipulate” reality, and even when they simply document something they in any case do it from their own personal point of view.
I try and go beyond this.
Those who know about photography and use it to document things, know well that in most cases it is possible to reach a compromise between what they have seen and what can be seen on paper, or on any other supports.
Those who believe that a camera is used to photograph reality and that it is a simple process simply do not know what they are talking about.
What I do is not documenting, I only want to say something about myself through my photographs.
The world that surrounds me which I knowingly “manipulate” is the means by which I communicate my way of seeing things, to assess and to be, through a “language of signs”, ordered in a sequence of pictures which are linked to each other by a theme, which often has nothing to do with the subjects who are photographed.
This is my language, my style, and in the end this is the way I am.
My formal way of searching is evident in all my work which, although it stems from different ideas, shows clear signs of stylistic consistency; whether it involves animals, persons, or environments it is always personalised, even using digital processing or filters on my lenses.
This way of expressing photography is limiting for me, but I’m a professional photographer, and I could not be so if I thought differently. It’s a problem of freedom, freedom to deal with the issues I want to deal with, in the way I want to deal with them, without any obligations other than that of presenting my work in an intellectually honest way.
This is why ArsLucis was created, in order for me to share my point of view. This is my way to see what surrounds me and to be able to show it simply as it is, simply the way I am.
I thank all those who constantly support my work and all those who wish to understand my point of view for constructive debates.
Thank you for your time.
Best wishes and may the light be with you,
Luisa
